Acted as counsel and litigation manager for the supply and transportation divisions of Conoco. Handled contractual matters surrounding the purchase and sale of natural gas, gas products, gas processing plants and related environmental and labor matters. Also managed the company’s ongoing litigation in these areas as well as a small number of personal injury and admiralty suits.

1977-1979 Assistant Attorney General of North Carolina, Raleigh NC

Served as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of North Carolina. Assignments included condemning land for highways, defending highway projects against environmental challenges, regulatory enforcement of varied departmental rules and regulations, and appellate representation of the State in both state and federal courts.

1975-1977 Associate, Jordan Morris and Hoke, Raleigh NC

Associate Attorney in a general legal practice which emphasized legislative representation, banking and commercial litigation. Served as principal legislative counsel for the North Carolina Public Health Association.
